Initial occupancy occurred in May of 2007. Inmates housed here include both sentenced and pre-trial adult male and female offenders.
The Crow Wing County Jail has incorporated a direct supervision design and operational philosophy into the daily operation of the new facility. Studies indicate that correctional facilities incorporating this type of philosophy are safer for both staff and inmates.
An integral component of the direct supervision philosophy is jail programming. The Crow Wing County Jail offers a full range of jail programs. Each housing unit has a classroom, indoor-outdoor recreation area and meeting room so that programs are brought to the inmates, lessening inmate movement. Programs include two supervised sentence-to-service work crews, parenting classes, AA, bible study, quilt making and GED preparation. |
