The Office of the County Treasurer
is an elected position, whose responsibilities are subject to MN Statutes, Chapters 384 and 385. The Treasurer's office is responsible for billing and collecting all tax monies and other receipts of the county. The County Treasurer processes accurately and deposits all county funds on a timely basis in county banks designated as depositories, after bonds or securities pledged by these institutions have been approved by the county board.
One of the missions of this division is to administer the property tax laws of the State thereby insuring the equitable allocation, collection and distribution of property taxes and accurate maintenance of land records in an environment of continuous improvement of the quality of our services. All real, personal property and mobile home taxes including severed mineral rights and timberland are collected by the County Treasurer. The due dates are set by state statutes as are penalty rates for past due taxes and liens on property for delinquent taxes. The Treasurer distributes tax statements to all taxpayers in the county once each year, about the last of March. Each month the Treasurer prepares a trial balance providing the historic checks and balances. The Treasurer must also reconcile all checking accounts monthly.
The Treasurer is a member of various committees, councils, and boards, as appointed or directed by the board. A liaison is maintained with local, state and federal officials and agencies as appropriate.
To assist in carrying out assigned duties, the Treasurer has appointed a Chief Deputy Treasurer and additional clerical personnel. As an elected official, the County Treasurer is responsible directly to the people of Crow Wing County for performing the duties of the elected office. The Treasurer and staff are dedicated to serving the citizens of Crow Wing County by offering the best possible service in all aspects of their assigned duties.
The County Treasurer's office is held responsible for the proper filing of all documents made a matter of public record and for the accuracy and safety of the official records and files. The official records in the County Treasurer 's Office contain full, true, and exact copies of original documents including birth, death, marriage, ministerial ordination registrations and Notary registrations.
